I know its a few months old. An instructor who forgot the basics. Tragic nonetheless. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/weird/Gun-Safety-Demo-Turns-Tragic.htmlQuote: An Arizona man killed himself early Sunday while demonstrating gun safety techniques. Samuel Benally, 26, of Phoenix, was in an apartment with the two witnesses when he told them guns should be kept unloaded because people could point them at their heads, Sierra Vista police Sgt. Brett Mitchell told the Arizona Star. Benally put his own 9mm Ruger, which he thought was unloaded, to his head and fired, Mitchell said. He was flown to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Mitchell said. An investigation is ongoing, but police do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved, Mitchell said.

Let's see: 1) All guns are always loaded. BROKEN2) Never point a gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. BROKEN3) Keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot. Kept this one...he pulled the trigger.4) Know your target and what is behind it. Well, I'm guessing he knew his head...I'll give him half a point. Not purposely trying to be harsh, but MY GOSH HOW STUPID CAN YOU GET?

Thoughts and prayers go to the family. As for the shooter? Darwin got him.

Sad story, but a good example of what happens when people who don't know what they are doing try and demonstrate something.
Another possible explanation is the "Fluffy the Pet Gun" syndrome, where a gun owner gets so used to fondling their gun that they forget it's dangerous when mishandled. Familiarity breeding contempt.
The solution? Training and proper procedure.

As a demo, though, A+ with a gold star.

Though I question the his methods, it was definitely an effective safety demo.

Yup. I say they go ahead and "publish it" so that the fella hasn't died in vain (much).

The level of stupid cannot be measured with existing technology. Wow. And yes, I think it's a given the people watching the demonstration will take it seriously and NEVER point a gun at their head and pull the trigger thinking it's unloaded. As tragic as this is I'm just glad he only took himself out by accident rather than one of the other people present.
