I'm a total newbie to handguns (just bought my first gun a couple weeks ago - a 9mm). I really want (ok...NEED...lol) to add a revolver to my collection. I really like the S&W 686 6" 6-shot. I found one new at Gander in Maple Grove for $799. This seems high to me for a revolver but what do I know. Is it priced reasonably or would I be getting screwed?
And generally speaking, what's the best way for a newbie to get a feel for prices on handguns? Is there a price guide or something available or some other online resource?
Thanks,
Travis
P.S. Any recommendations on what shops (locally or online) generally have the best prices on their guns?

See these guys for a 'ballpark figure'. I used "S&W 686" for my search parameters. http://www.gunbroker.com

Squeeze trigger, BANG, repeat. Kind of boring, but I never cared for drama.

$799 is, in my opinion, obscenely high. However, that's also GM's pricing...
I'd say that $550-600 is in the correct range.
I'd check Gunstop; usually their prices are pretty decent.

After doing some more research on this gun I would say you are right! $799 is ridiculous. I'm glad I didn't buy it. Travis mrokern wrote: tvanslooten wrote: I found one new at Gander in Maple Grove for $799.
