Quote: Teen Accused of Banana Hold-Up AttemptUpdated: Saturday, 16 May 2009, 3:04 PM CDT Published : Saturday, 16 May 2009, 3:00 PM CDT * By The Associated Press WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Authorities say a North Carolina teen who was thwarted as he tried to rob a store with a banana ate it before they could arrive. Winston-Salem authorities say 17-year-old John Szwalla held the banana under his shirt when he entered the store Thursday, saying he had a gun and demanded money. Owner Bobby Ray Mabe says he and a customer jumped Szwalla, holding him until deputies arrived. While they waited, Mabe says the teen ate the banana. Mabe says deputies took pictures of the banana peel. Forsyth County Sheriff's office spokesman Maj. Brad Stanley says deputies joked about charging Szwalla with destroying evidence. Szwalla faces a charge of attempted armed robbery. Jail officials say he doesn't have an attorney. ___ Information from: Winston-Salem Journal

I think we need a 5-day waiting period for banana purchases.

That won't help the banana was probably stolen anyway. All waiting periods do is cause honest law abiding citizens to have to wait to purchase their produce!

How do you get banannas to last longer than five days? When I get 'em they're good for maybe 2-3 days, at most.

Now you see the "a-peel" of the 5 day waiting period for these dangerous would-be weapons.
(pun fervently and most definitely intended)

I'm resisting the temptation to dredge up the Monty Python bit about "How to defend yourself against an attack by someone armed with a banana"...

Your grenade looks delicious. If I give you $5, can I have it and you go away?
(See, I KNEW carrying a knife with me would come in handy! Now I can have a tasty treat!)
