I've got a Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop. It's about 5 years old and has never given me any trouble (other than 'operator errors' = read: my screw ups :roll: ). It's got a Pentium 4 processor and I'm using a Sprint Merlin aircard (not sure of the model) and use Mozilla for my browser.

Anyways, I can't download .pdf files.

What do I need and where do I get it from? Oh, please make it simple since I'm about as computer illiterate as it gets.

Thanks.

It downloads them to 'Word' and when it opens, it's jibberish....... :?

Oh, it's only .pdf files that do this.

Do you have Adobe Reader Installed? If so if you right click on the file and click on Open With and find Adobe Reader do they open and are legible?

If so you need to go into Explore, Click on Tools>Folder Options>File Types and match .PDF with Adobe Reader.

And if you are too computer-illiterate for that to work ;) then simply reinstall the PDF viewer. That will likely fix things so the PDF viewer opens for PDFs instead of Word. A lot of people use Adobe Acrobat. If that's you or you don't know if that's you, go here. If you use something like Foxit, then you probably know as much and likely know where to re-download the installer for it.

In firefox3: tools-->options-->applications-->PDF file
you should set the pull down menu to "always ask" or whatever you wish

slightly off topic: Sumatra PDF is open source, smaller and faster than either Adobe or Foxit and doesn't have bundleware in the installer.

Thanks guys. 8) I'll deal with it tomorrow while I wait for a reload. It's late and I gotta deliver 15 pallets of cookies first thing in the morning here in Cedar Lake Indiana.

I hate OTR. :roll: I can't wait for road construction to begin so I can get back to dragging a belly dump or live bottom trailer. 8)
