I was in the Army and went for some of my training to Fort Huachuca, AZ. The facility there trains members of all branches of the service, and civilians as well.
I recall an announcement being made about the scheduling of some event at "1700 hours". This was followed by: "For you civilians, that's 5:00 PM. For you Marines, that's the little hand on the 5 and the big hand on the 12."
(OK maybe I actually read that in Readers' Digest.)

Why is it that Marines always have to remove their cover before they take a leak ??

Because only the marines wear a "cover" everyone els wears a hat.
