After eight months, an internal review has determined that Lima, Ohio police Sgt. Joseph Chavalia didn’t violate any department guidelines when he shot and killed unarmed Tarika Wilson and blew the hand off her infant son during a drug raid. Chavalia fired blindly into Wilson’s bedroom when he mistook the sound of another officer shooting the home’s dogs for hostile gunfire.

Don't YOU try this.

I will not even attempt to address this. I will just say that I hope Karma brings officer trigger happy some just deserts.

And the people on that jury need their heads examined. Perhaps even a botched no-knock warrant on their own homes (with the wife and baby there) to put things in perspective? Maybe have a well beloved dog or two be murdered in the process?

I'm too harsh... :?

Wilson's family has since filed a lawsuit against the officer and the city of Lima.

I hope they are asking for HUGE money in the civil suit, and that they win :!:

Hope he can't sleep at night until he makes it right. There's no fixing this, but Chavalia could at least own up to his mistake and take his medicine like a man.

How many times have we heard the "I thought it was a deer!", or "It sounded like a deer!" in response to a hunting accident? If memory serves, the legal system has looked unkindly upon the shooting of another human being even if the "mistake" was legitimate.

Shooting at sounds is not very good practice, LEO or not.

Shooting at sounds isn't bad practice....it's fucking stupid!!

I can personally attest to the fact that if I followed the practice of shooting at sounds I would have accidentally shot and killed one person already.
