Safety Alert:
Strong-Armed Robbery -- On Campus

At approximately 11:15 a.m., Friday, October 19, 2007, a male SCSU student was physically assaulted by two males as the student was walking on the east side of the Herberger College of Business. The victim was pushed against the side of the building and the subjects stole the victim’s identification pouch materials and keys and damaged his cell phone. The subjects then fled traveling north along the River Walk area. The victim then activated an external “Emergency Blue-Light Phone” and Public Safety responded, met with the victim, obtained a description of the subjects and searched the area for the assailants, who were not located. The St. Cloud Police Department was also notified of this incident and are assisting the victim.

The victim described both subjects as being white (Caucasian) males, both 20-25 years of age, 5’11” to 6’ tall and neither had any facial hair. Subject #1 is further described to have “a reddish tint” to his skin color, with short, curly brown hair, wearing a dark green “hooded” sweatshirt and “regular” jeans. Subject #2 is further described as slightly taller than Subject #1, wearing a long-sleeved, black & white, different sized horizontally striped shirt, and he has longer-length blonde hair and is of milder complexion than Subject #1.

If you have any information that may assist in the investigation of this crime, contact the St. Cloud Police Department-“911” for emergencies; or, (320) 251-1200 (non-emergencies). Refer to Police Report #07056964. You may also contact Public Safety (320) 308-3333, for assistance.

To reduce your risk of becoming a victim while walking, please

· Avoid walking alone & stay in well-lighted areas, use more commonly traveled walking routes both on and off-campus, avoid alleys and isolated areas. Walk at a constant pace and remain aware of your surroundings; do not wear headphones or talk on your cell phone while walking.

My favorite part is the last paragraph, it should also include get a carry permit and protect yourself cause no one else will!!!!!

- Don't walk on campus at 11 in the morning. That's high risk behavior.

And by all means don't ride your bike on the U of M East Bank campus around lunchtime.

What? No racial descriptor disclaimers. I wonder why?

hey im on the student government in st. cloud, we are currently trying to change the weapons policy to allow tasers right now. I figure i can try to get tasers and if i can get tasers, well then i should be able to carry too once the rules are changed. we need pro-gun people on the student government, at MSUSA, and inside MnSCU also. I need alot of help geting the word out and helping me achieve the goal of allowing tasers on campus.

Just for the record I wouldn't call it stealing. It seems to be clearly strong arm robbery. I believe that would be considered a crime of violence. I hope they catch the ***holes and quickly send them up the road to St. Cloud State Penitentiary (and keep them there longer that it would take to get a degree at the college).

Best of luck with your endeavor to change policy. I'm sure you have support from most here.

Safety Alert: Update

DID NOT OCCUR
Strong-Armed Robbery -- On Campus
Reported to Campus Friday, October 19, 2007
DID NOT OCCUR

Investigation by the St. Cloud Police Department into the claim of a strong-armed robbery occurring east of the Business Building on the St. Cloud State University campus on Oct. 19 has determined that the report was fabricated. The alleged student-victim has admitted he was not truthful in filing that incident report. While the claim has been withdrawn, the need for the campus community to practice safety precautions remains.

To reduce your risk of becoming a victim while walking, please
• Avoid walking alone & stay in well-lighted areas, use more commonly traveled walking routes both on and off-campus, avoid alleys and isolated areas. Walk at a constant pace and remain aware of your surroundings; do not wear headphones or talk on your cell phone while walking.
• Be aware of the locations of the 28 “blue-light” emergency phones around campus. They are there for your use and protection.
St. Cloud State University continues to work diligently to make this a safe campus. Over the last three years, the number of reported crimes on the St. Cloud State University campus is comparable to other four-year schools with residence halls in the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities System. The robbery claims this fall are the first since a single incident in 2005. In the first nine-months of 2007, our crime statistics are comparable to the previous three years.

Anyone experiencing a crime is encouraged to immediately call “911” and report it to the St. Cloud Police; and any/all safety or security concerns should be immediately reported to the University’s Public Safety Department, phone #320-308-3333 (ext. 8-3333 from a campus phone).

Public Safety Report #0700962(second posting)(10-31-07)

That was what was sent to us last night. Apparently its all fake.

Apparently we've got a number of SCSU students here. I'm aware of four now.

Anyway, yup, the second one is apparently fake. The first one doesn't seem to be.

Last year early in the year it was a random attack. A girl walking through a parking lot in the mid-morning was grabbed from behind and pulled into the backseat of a vehicle. She was able to fight her way free and escape.

Weird, these attacks are happening in the morning. All crimes are supposed to happen at night in the dark, though. ???

My guess would be since people are expecting attacks at night they are (a bit) more aware when it's dark. When was the last time you expected to run into trouble at 11 in the morning? (okay, stupid question for this board. You are always expecting trouble which is why you are prepared.)

But an excellent point which, if you don't mind, I might soon ask you to repeat for an article.

Not a problem.
