I understood this to be the first time this was broadcast. I was listening to the radio Saturday Morning I believe around 9am or so, and was surprised to here the talk host introduce someone on the Anti side, and then introduce "kimberman" second. The main premise was limiting "assault weapons" which according to the anti and the host, was anything capable of firing more than one round (I know, I know...)
Long story short, I tried listening to either side with as little bias as possible, and I think it is no stretch to say that kimberman effectively wiped the floor with the other side. Kudos to you sir, thank you for representing our side with maturity, dignity, and well-prepared logic.
(didn't see a thread making reference to this, if there is, mod's feel free to act accordingly) I believe the host was Ron Rosenbaum, though I was a little groggy and can't remember exactly.

I thought he gave a great history lesson, and the part about the printing press and porn was priceless.

Know you enemy and listen to the first segment also. Jack Rakove attacks everyone for the justices on the court to us hicks who just can’t get his version of a plane language reading of the constitution. “….the change the NRA position and the skills with witch it turned itself into a highly effective lobby, and went out kind of recruiting sympathetic attorneys who dressed them selves up as scholars without being scholars in the proper sense of the term to start propagating there own beliefs and their own positions.” and the brady bunch never dose this. That Jack Rakove can sure jump through some hoops to try and make his case and I’ll say it he’s as intellectually bankrupt as he accuses the individual rights supporter of being. While referencing the debates around the amendment prior to adoption he conveniently leaves out the fact that Prof Olson brings up that language changing it to a states rights issue was defeated 3 separate times. So I can’t see how someone can now claim the founder were talking about a collective right I’ll admit that I got schooled on this I knew about Madison’s moves to secure the individual right, but didn’t know of the others. Thanks for the ammo. Also I did like your rebuttal to the host’s statement around the advancement of technology and how we should be limited to the technology of the founders, outlining the progress of mass communication was dead on. Following the host's logic the militia population of the day had better equipment then the Army, so I think we should have to own class three to keep a similar balance of power.

They taped it over a month ago and never told me when it would be broadcast (I don't think they know until they do it).

Just a few of my observations and comments: Your phone made some noise when you were holding it, which is somewhat annoying and doesn't seem as professional as other callers. Maybe a speaker phone in a quite room would be a better. When he brought up the question about the technology changes in weapons. A good response might have been to state that muskets and firearms of that day were STATE OF THE ART. In fact there were no differences between those weapons and what the military was using. So it's a fallacious question, unless he's trying to suggest that citizens should be able to own automatic military weapons. I would have tried to be more clear about the militia, and how the national guard is actually part of the Army and not controlled by the states. It was broken up a bit between the beginning of the interview and the end. Besides the militia not being controlled by the states as intended, the second amendment also states it's a right of the people and that's often ignored. While your historical explanations are very detailed and appreciated. In some regards I feel you covered the questions too much in depth to fit the show. It might be better to fashion your answers to address the lowest common denominator of society, but still include hard facts too keep them from being questioned. Also thanks for getting on that show, and defending our rights.

The NRA did turn itself into a lobbying organization in the 70's. The disinformation here is that widespread opposition to gun control, and the widespread belief that the 2nd didn't protect an individual right, didn't begin with the NRA's change, it had been there all along. There was no NRA-ILA in 1968, and no organized pro-gun lobbying effort. But the when GCA-68 was proposed, it received over 300,000 letters - that were more than 100-to-1 opposed. Ditto with the National Firearms Act of 1934. The NRA was pushing for handgun licensing in 1934 - we escaped it because gun owners stopped it. It's the idea that the 2nd doesn't protect an individual right that is modern revisionism. There was little discussion over it during the ratification because it was non-controversial - everyone, on all sides, supported it. All of the 19th century commentators, and all of the 19th century court decisions, recognize that the 2nd protects an individual right.

I was thinking more along the lines of a Polycom that has background noise canceling features... Nothing wrong with a decent speaker phone if you're in a quite room though. The headset is good or better recommendation considering their prevalence.

Now there is posers on both sides of the fence such as that clown with the cameraman down range or anyone in the brady bunch.

A good quality telephone is fine, if you can keep from fidgeting with the handset. Even a moderate quality headset is fine, too. A speaker phone, even a very good one, must make constant decisions about who talks and who listens. Headsets and handsets are bidirectional.

Most of the speaker phones that have been made in the last decade are full duplex. I do understand if there is a dislike for them, since many people use them inappropriately. In a quite room you shouldn't experience problems with acoustic echoes and feedback. Now if you're talking into your cellphone, that's a different matter.
