So i have started a pretty good dialogue with Rep. Kath from Owatonna. His latest response is below. I would like some help from forum members responding to his request for information on different aspects of the Castle Doctrine, keep in mind the recent tragedy of the Kruger Family being mudered in their home outside of Waseca (this is Rep. Kath's constituency, hence why people down here may be asking), but unlike the Anti's, I have an ethical problem with using tragedies to promote our cause. Please let me know.
Response:
Matt - Thanks for your reply. I too look forward to a very open dialogue
on issues that come before me and I hope that we can discuss them
candidly to really find good solutions for our state. I tend to hold
true to the 2nd amendment as recently defined by the Supreme Court as an
individual right to bear arms. With that, I am not going to do things
that will inhibit the rights of lawful gun owners to a fault.
I have not been given any other gun legislation to look at to this
point, but want you to feel free to contact me when you here of any
coming before us here in the house. Please let me know what your take
is on the Castle Doctrine and what features you like and what features
are negotiable. I am sure this will come up as an amendment on the
floor and I want to be prepared, so I am asking a lot of people back
home about it.
Finally, I have heard that there is something on doves and a hunting
ban.....but I am not sure what it is. I tried to look it up but it must
not be a final bill yet.
Thanks again and please know that you can contact me anytime about
these issues. We may not always agree on all of the measure in the bill
but I think you will find me to be very fair in my appraisal of the 2nd
amendment. Take care and be in touch, Kory Kath

I understand your reluctance, and share it. I think it's fair to do it, but it's also only right to express some reluctance -- fair, because this gun stuff is mainly about people being able to protect themselves and others, and that's too important to take off the table. YMMV.

Afterthought: suggest that Rep. Kath have a chat with Professor Olson, next time he's up at the Capitol. I'd be a not-crazy second choice. Suggestions from constituents work better than suggestions from non-constituents.
