So, I finally wrote down what the sign actually says:
Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board
"Parks and the surrounding communities are drug- and weapon-free zones. Illegal drugs and weapons are not allowed on park property"
So wrong, in so many ways, I wouldn't know where to start.

I don't see the problem; you just have to distribute "illegal" to apply to both drugs and weapons. A firearm carried by a permit holder is not an illegal weapon.

As I remember the mpls city council voted to ban firearms (permit or no permit) in city parks and other locations, as far as I remember there is no penalty.
I beleive St. Paul did a similar thing except in St. Paul they made it a misdemeaner.
and so did the U of M.
IANAL

If they did, they're not enforcable, and might even be actionable.

Just sucks (can you say sucks here?) that these city councils have to play these games...

A woman from "Citizens For a Safer Minnesota" set up a table down at Powderhorn Park a couple of years back, during a kid's fishing day. I was too busy helping kids fish to engage her in conversation, or to point out that at least one of the volunteers there that day was packing

You and I might make such a distribution, would the Park Police cop responding to a "man with a gun" make such a fine distinction?
