DISCLAIMER: This was sent to me via e-mail from a friend. Unverified, but not impossible...
I don't know where the range is that is mentioned.
Email text:
Today, Saturday 30 September, there was a non-injury mishap on the lower range. A customer sighting-in his rifle, forgot to remove the boresighter before firing a live round. It was a Savage bolt-action, I believe in 30-06. Attached are the photo results. The boresighter was found almost all the way to the 100yd target holders.

Saw those pics yesterday. Too bad, but looks like nobody got hurt.
If anybody comes across a gun thats been blowed up like that, let me know. I'm interested in collecting a couple of those. They are great for gun safety class demonstrations. It really sinks in for the kids when they see something like that.

I'll bet you could (not should, could) make one with a hydraulic ram if you were careful ...

I have an old Mosin I would be willing to donate to that cause.
I know I could come up with a couple a feet of string to complete the process too.
I always have been interested to see what would happen with a couple inches of dirt stuck down the muzzle.
Hmmmm, A Minnesota version of "Myth Busters"?

I think I'd go with a few yards of string and maybe sandbag the gun position just in case... Flying metal tends to go odd places.
But yeah ... Mythbusters North woudl be cool.

Jeez don't go destroy an old Russian farm implement! I have a soft spot for those things and would hate to see one killed.

Someone should send those pics to Mythbusters. They did a myth like this, the ol' finger in the barrell. I don't remember which type of firearm they used.

In my book, that's no longer a firearm. Toss it in the vehicle. Or the trash.

I have several of them. The one I am thinking was bought as a Gunsmith special. It is to say the least, Rough. Mainly it has been a parts gun.

I have one- an M91/30 that's in pretty good shape, on the whole, for being 60-odd years old. It's one of my favorites. I'd like to get an M44 one of these days, though.

Here's an idea -- next time some police units do a buy-back, we could offer to "destroy" stuff for them... set up a nice safe cinder block and sandbag spot with a long string at a range or gravel pit and viola' -- show and tell samples for all our instructor friends!
Jon
and well, if they buy back something interesting, I can "certify" it destroyed by adding to my collection! "really I cut off the sling, isn't that destroyed enough for ya!?!"

They are most addicting.
91/30, M44 (X3) and a M38

I call shenanigans!
That is too perfect of a split.
In the Mythbusters vein, they welded the barrel shut and couldn't get it to split like this.
