Thirty States

And now we are thirty

No, not in age; I passed thirty two decades ago. It's the number of states I can help you get permits to carry in. No, it's not the number of carry permits you need, either, and no, you don't have to travel to any other state; you can do this all from Minnesota.

I'd better back up.

About six months ago, I upgraded the Twin Cities Carry Course to include instructions on how to get not only your Minnesota carry permit, but additional carry permits valid in a total of twenty-eight states.

Unsurprisingly, that drew a fair amount of attention, and many other instructors are now doing multi-state carry courses, although as far as I can tell none of them have, as of yet, quite gotten up to the full twenty-eight states.

While writing the Missouri version of the Everything... book, I did some research on a Missouri-specific problem that has some implications for non-Missourians, and while it's too long (read: boring) to go into the details here, a result is that I've upgraded the Twin Cities Carry Course, yet again, so that you can now get the appropriate set of carry permits that will enable you to carry, lawfully, in thirty states.

Yes, thirty states. The list is at the end of this feature.

Doing the multi-state carry section does add some time to the class, as people who have taken their refreshers can tell you, but not a lot. Getting the additional permits is mainly a matter of having a properly-certified instructor, and of filling out a few additional forms, and going through some—not much—additional red tape.

And, yes, we cover all that in the class, and in the handouts that you get to enable you to go through it all without tearing your hair out.

Upgrading and Retraining

Needless to say, with TCCarry students able to get permits that let them carry in twenty-eight—now, thirty—states, there's been a lot of interest from people who already have taken their carry courses and gotten their permits, wondering if there's a reduced price for upgrading, and retraining.

Yes, there is. It depends on what your training is, and from whom you've taken it.

For TCCarry/28 States Students

For my recent students, who have already taken the 28 state version of TCCarry, upgrading to get the two additional states is free. The affidavit I've already given you will work; it's just a matter of getting a copy of the latest Multi-State Carry handout, and following directions. You can show up at any TCCarry class, or send me an SASE, and I'll send you a copy.

For Previous Twin Cities Carry Students

If you've already taken the Twin Cities Carry Class with me, but haven't taken the 28 states upgrade, you do have to take the class again, but you can do it at the reduced fee of $50. You will get all of the same handouts everybody gets, but you don't have to do another shooting qualification, and you won't need another copy of the book.

It's probably worth your time. In addition to that, we've actually had some gun defenses under the new law, and we now can discuss not just what is likely to happen in the wake of a successful gun defense, but what has happened.

For Minnesota Permit Holders Who Haven't Taken the Twin Cities Carry Course

If you've already gotten your Minnesota carry permit, but want to upgrade your training, you can take the Twin Cities Carry Course as an upgrade to your present training for $125; you'll need to show me your current Minnesota carry permit in order to qualify.

You'll get a copy of the Everything... book, all the handouts that everybody else in the class gets, including the two Multi-State Carry handouts (Getting Your Permits and State Restrictions), the Things Your Friends and Family Need to Know handout, the multi-state training affidavit, and everything else. You will need to pass the shooting qualification. If you already own your own copy of the book, I'll deduct $25 from that fee.
